Providence is “Capitol City” of Rhode Island and is one of the oldest ciBes in
the US, founded in 1636. Providence lies at the mouth of the Providence
River at the head of Narraganse6 Bay.
Originally noted for manufacturing metals, machinery, texBles, jewelry, and
silverware, today Providence Brown Health hospitals and Brown University
along with the RI School of Design, Johnson and Wales University making a
shiR from manufacturing to the knowledge and service industries.
Prominent companies based here include Textron, United Natural Foods,
Nortek Incorporated, and CiDzens Bank. The Port of Providence is the
second largest deep-water seaport in New England.
Providence is host to WaterFire, an environmental art installaBon that
consists of about 100 bonfires burning on the River. Tony Award-winning
theater group Trinity Repertory Company is in Providence leading a thriving
arts community, vibrant and diverse neighborhoods, outstanding hotels,
renowned restaurant scene, and so many things to do. Easy commute to
